What You’ll Learn:

• Soloing & Improvisation – Build confident solos in 4 styles with musical phrasing and vocabulary.

• Jazz & Contemporary Styles – Gain mastery of swing, uptempo swing, jazz waltz, ballad/brushes, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and funk/hip-hop with authentic feel and groove.

• Advanced Technique – Increase speed, control, coordination, and relaxed motion with Free Stroke and Push/Pull methods.

• Groove, Time-Keeping & Fills – Lead the band and play fills that fit the style—with solid time.

• Rudiment Application – Use rudiments creatively in your grooves, fills, and solos.

• Section Figures & Reading – Understand and interpret section and ensemble rhythms.

What you bring:

• 3+ years of drum set experience and 2+ years of jazz band experience

• Ability to read rhythms and play uptempo swing (190+ BPM)

• A positive attitude and commitment to being the best you can be.

• A love for playing and collaborating with other drummers.

• Practice Pad Kit – Let us know if this is a challenge, and we’ll try to help.

• Jazz sticks and brushes. 7A or similar style/size of sticks and brushes (retractable wire with rubber handle recommended.)
